SUSI Leaders 2016 visiting Kaimana Chee<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Beginning in late June, the UTC College of Business and the UTC Center for Global Education will host the U.S. Department of State’s 2017 Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders (SUSI)<\/strong> from Europe. Undergraduate students from Europe will study Social Entrepreneurship and American culture on UTC’s campus for four weeks during the months of June and July. This is the second year for UTC to host this program.<\/p>\n

Visiting students will represent 18 European countries, including Belarus, Cyprus, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The SUSI program will include classroom lectures, hands-on activities, leadership development, and interactions with Americans both on UTC’s campus and throughout the Chattanooga community.<\/p>\n

The program at UTC is led by Dr. Robert Dooley, Dean of the College of Business, and Takeo Suzuki, Executive Director of the Office of International Programs. Heather Delbridge will serve as the Program Director. “We’re extremely excited and humbled to host the SUSI program again this year. Last year was an incredible experience with such an outstanding cohort of students, and we know this year will be another success,” said Dooley.<\/p>\n

The SUSI program’s goal is for participants to gain a better understanding of social entrepreneurship in the United States and help them develop skills to make a positive impact upon returning to their home communities. To that end, the program will facilitate community partnerships by bringing in local Tennessee organizations and social entrepreneurs to share their expertise with the European students. The students will also engage with the local community through community service, with the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity just to name a few.<\/p>\n

The Center for Global Education is looking for host families to welcome SUSI students for overnight stays and home-cooked meals.
