{"id":11290,"date":"2023-08-25T14:18:31","date_gmt":"2023-08-25T18:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/campus-weekly\/?p=11290"},"modified":"2023-08-25T14:39:08","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T18:39:08","slug":"read-to-achieve-seeking-selection-committee-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/campus-weekly\/2023\/08\/read-to-achieve-seeking-selection-committee-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"Read to Achieve: Seeking Selection Committee Volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11291 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/campus-weekly\/files\/2023\/08\/read-to-achieve-logo.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\"style=\"max-width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Read to Achieve steering committee is seeking volunteers for its selection committee for 2024-2025 text.<\/p>\n<p>The selected text has a variety of criteria to meet, chief among those are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Readability and potential for engaging students;<\/li>\n<li>Accurate and respectful portrayals of diverse cultures and identities<\/li>\n<li>Relevance to first-year students, current society, and\/or local community<\/li>\n<li>Possibilities for additional programming, especially inclusion in first-year courses or other areas of the curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Reasonable Cost (less than $20)<\/li>\n<li>Manageable Length (around 200-300 pages)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Committee members agree to engage in the selection process (via email and Zoom meetings) to narrow suggested titles to a short list (4-5 titles) by mid-October, to read and review the short list titles, and to make a recommendation to the Executive Leadership Team for the 2024-2025 selection by mid-November.<\/p>\n<p>The selection of the Read to Achieve text happens on a relatively rapid timeline to allow for development of academic materials, social engagements, and author visits.
