This paid internship program is truly an outstanding, often career-establishing opportunity for juniors and seniors interested in learning about law, legislative processes, and state government. Interns live in Nashville for the spring semester and do very \u201creal\u201d work, helping to manage committees, conducting bill research, and assisting with constituent relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Tennessee Legislative Internship Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tennessee Legislative Intern Program provides Tennessee students with an opportunity to work and learn in a hands-on legislative environment. Each year students from around the state participate in this program to learn about leadership responsibilities as well as develop legislative process skills. Interns assist legislative offices with their Legislative activities and work functions, and are typically able to earn academic credits in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juniors, seniors, and graduate students in political science, history, social work, economics, sociology, journalism and related fields are encouraged to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Term<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selected applicants will be appointed as legislative interns for the 2023 session of the Tennessee General Assembly beginning January 9 until April 28, 2023. (Please note that the appointment period is not concurrent with UTC\u2019s academic calendar, and school holidays such as spring break are not observed by the General Assembly.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stipend<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A stipend of $400 per week will be paid to each intern, plus reimbursement for travel between the intern’s home institution and Nashville at the state authorized rate, limited to one round-trip per month. A one-time advance payment of $400 also will be granted to each intern for relocation and adjustment purposes. Students should note that they are responsible for their own housing arrangements in Nashville, and that all stipend payments including the relocation allowance are treated as taxable income subject to withholding and F.I.C.A.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
