The UTC Police Department will be hosting a cell phone drive to collect electronic devices for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault the week of Jan. 23-28.<\/p>\n

This campaign, a partnership between the UTC Police Department, the 911 Cell Phone Bank and Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, will provide cell phones to victims of abuse at no charge as their new cellphone.<\/p>\n

The 911 Cell Phone Bank<\/strong><\/a> collects all small electronic devices like cell phones, laptops, tablets, iPods and iPads and refurbishes them. They are then distributed upon request to law enforcement agencies and nonprofit organizations across the U.S.<\/p>\n

The UTC women\u2019s basketball team has joined the police in promoting this effort. Patrons bringing any small device to the women’s basketball game Jan. 26 vs. UNC Greensboro or Jan. 28 vs. Western Carolina will receive a \u201cBuy One, Get One Half Off\u201d offer for a general admission ticket. Bring the device to the box office at Gate 2 or Gate 3 to receive this offer; UTC Police personnel will be inside the arena waiting to collect the donated devices.<\/p>\n

People who would like to help victims of relationship violence and have an old cellphone or device to recycle\u2014but are unable to make it to the games\u2014can drop them off at the donation collection box in the front lobby of the UTC\u2019s Police Department at 400 Palmetto Street.<\/p>\n
