The following UTC Faculty and Staff have attracted $613,735<\/strong> in external grant and contract awards:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jejal Reddy Bathi (Civil & Chemical Engineering) has received $12,500 from the City of Chattanooga for the project entitled, “Black Creek Stormwater Capture and Reuse.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Hornsby (Children’s Center), in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Human Services-Child Care Planning and Development, has requested and received $141,247 from the Administration for Children and Families for the project entitled, “TDHS\/HHS Child Care Stabilization Funds – Battle Academy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Hornsby (Children’s Center), in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Human Services-Child Care Planning and Development, has requested and received $213,206 from the Administration for Children and Families for the project entitled, “TDHS\/HHS Child Care Stabilization Funds – Brown Academy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catherine Kendall (Interior Design) has received $5,815 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “2023 TBAEE Grant for Equipment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Daniel Loveless (Electrical Engineering), in collaboration with a privately-owned company, has received $148,000 from a government entity for a research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie Mix and Nyssa Hunt (IGTLab) have requested and received $12,790 from Thrive Regional Partnership for the project entitled, “79 Towns Community Analysis Project.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie Mix and Nyssa Hunt (IGTLab) have received $8,058 from Tennessee Valley Authority for the project entitled, “Tennessee RiverLine Principal Partnership Funding Agreement 2021-2023.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Joseph Owino (Civil & Chemical Engineering) has received $35,125 from the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners for the project entitled, “2023 TBAEE Grant for Equipment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jill Shelton (Psychology) and Dr. Amy Doolittle (Social Work), in collaboration with Western Kentucky University, have received $6,494 from the Tennessee Department of Health for the project entitled, “Bingocize: An evidence-based health promotion program to improve the quality of life of Tennessee certified nursing facility residents.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Tony Skjellum (SimCenter) has received $30,000 from Sandia National Lab for the project entitled, “ATSE Spack.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ruth Walker (Psychology), together with her student, Kathleen Hillman, have requested and received $500 from the Psi Chi, International Honor Society in Psychology for the project entitled, “2022-23 Mamie Phipps Clark Diversity Research Grant.”<\/p>\n\n\n

Dr. Laurie Allen (Arts-Based Collaborative) has requested $13,428 from Hamilton County Public Schools for the project entitled, “Battle Academy – Arts360 Project 2023.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amy Brock-Hon (Biology, Geology, & Environmental Science), Dr. Keenan Dungey, and Jack Pitkin (Chemistry & Physics) have requested $25,000 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Clarence T. Jones Planetarium Projector.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Dawn Ford (Health & Human Performance) has requested $5,805 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “UTC Service-Learning Initiative for Healthy Communities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Linda Hill (School of Nursing) has requested formula funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the project entitled, “University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Nurse Anesthetist Traineeships.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tish Hubbard (Enrollment Management & Student Affairs) has requested $24,998 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “UTC Basic Needs Program.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Seong Dae Kim (Engineering Management & Technology) and Dr. Ignatius Fomunung (Civil & Chemical Engineering) have requested $196,943 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Induced Travel Study Applied in Urban Areas in Tennessee.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Seong Dae Kim (Engineering Management & Technology), Dr. Ignatius Fomunung (Civil & Chemical Engineering), and Dr. Thomas Wilson (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science) have requested $244,401 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Selecting Countermeasures for High-Risk Locations for Wildlife Related Crashes in Tennessee.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lingju Kong (Mathematics), in collaboration with Kennesaw State University, has requested $246,077 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “ATD: A Mobile Surveillance System Based on Dynamic Equations and Video Games.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Jennifer Lynberg and Dr. Jason Gordon (School of Education) have requested $9,000 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Women and Diversity in Science: Makerspace Training Lab.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mbakisya Onyango, Dr. Joseph Owino, and Dr. Benjamin Byard (Civil & Chemical Engineering) have requested $225,000 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Development of TN UHPC for Bridge Applications.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mbakisya Onyango, Dr. Jejal Reddy Bathi (Civil & Chemical Engineering), Dr. Seong Dae Kim (Engineering Management & Technology), and Charlie Mix (IGTLab) have requested $200,193 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Evaluation and Development of Cost Prediction Models for Resurfacing Projects to Improve M&R Analysis and Project Development.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Joseph Owino, Dr. Mbakisya Onyango, and Dr. Weidong Wu (Civil & Chemical Engineering) have requested $113,301 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Early Age Concrete Acceptance.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tracye Pool (English) has requested $10,000 from the UC Foundation for the project entitled, “ChattaMusings.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Hong Qin (Computer Science & Engineering) has requested $449,988 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Uncovering driver genes for cell fate determination in cellular aging.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Reetesh Ranjan and Dr. Kidambi Sreenivas (Mechanical Engineering) have requested $474,650 from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center for the project entitled, “Numerical Investigation and Multi-Scale Modeling of Differential Diffusion Effects in Stably Stratified Turbulent Flows.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Donald Reising (Electrical Engineering), in collaboration with Mississippi State University and Worchester Polytechnic Institute, has requested $350,390 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “SaTC: CORE: Medium: Learning to Talk in Noisy Mobile Networks.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Morgan Smith (Social, Cultural & Justice Studies) has requested $343,121 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Using the Tennessee River Near Chattanooga to Revolutionize Methodology and Education in Submerged Precontact Archaeology.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ben Stein (Chemistry & Physics) has requested $50,882 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Characterization of non-canonical regulatory pathways in the Caulobacter NtrYX signaling system.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Serkan Varol (Engineering Management & Technology) and Charlie Mix (IGTLab) have requested $166,418 from the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “A Spatial-Temporal Hotspot Analysis of Wildlife-Vehicle Collisions and Other Contributing Factors for Tennessee.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
