We all have our reasons for studying abroad,\u00a0and we decide to embark\u00a0on that\u00a0journey which changes us in the most unexpected\u00a0ways.\u00a0Studying\u00a0abroad in Chile during my\u00a0undergraduate\u00a0career helped me grow\u00a0as\u00a0a young woman\u00a0in the most beautiful ways as\u00a0I was\u00a0challenged,\u00a0inspired, loved,\u00a0and embraced.\u00a0It\u00a0was\u00a0a life changing\u00a0event,\u00a0which\u00a0even led me to achieve my\u00a0master’s\u00a0degree\u00a0today.<\/p>\n

To learn about a region that has had major political and cultural changes\u00a0in\u00a0recent times\u00a0and where countries are seeking to find their\u00a0identity\u00a0and establish themselves was my purpose of embarking on a study abroad trip in the Balkans. Observing\u00a0the older generation’s different\u00a0demeanor than\u00a0the younger generations was\u00a0the most\u00a0interesting\u00a0to me\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0divide was very\u00a0distinct.<\/p>\n

The older generation often dressed business casual on most occasions while the younger generation dressed\u00a0expressively\u00a0and\u00a0casually. It was also interesting to see the older generation react to seeing people who are different from them while the younger generation did not care. As an\u00a0entrepreneur, I was impressed by the high level of\u00a0entrepreneurship\u00a0I observed on our travels. I was mainly impressed by the cafes which served as pit stops for travelers.\u00a0Additionally, the\u00a0restaurants\u00a0were almost all\u00a0local,\u00a0and I do not recall seeing a chain\u00a0restaurant.<\/p>\n

Along our travels, I was able to tell that these countries were developing\u00a0infra-structurally. Kosovo was unique because\u00a0there\u00a0seemed to be plenty of new buildings and ongoing\u00a0construction. Admittedly , I had the perception that Kosovo would not have been developed as much as I saw. The Balkans is beautiful as it has\u00a0seas on\u00a0one side and the hills and mountains on the other side. The vegetables and fruits were so\u00a0tasty\u00a0as they were always fresh! Albania has\u00a0good\u00a0tomatoes. When I traveled after the study abroad trip with my friend, we were\u00a0pulled over\u00a0by a\u00a0police\u00a0officer and I truly\u00a0believe that’s because he got a kick out of me eating a\u00a0tomato\u00a0in the passenger side (or that was part of it), he let us go.<\/p>\n
