<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our newest blog series, \u201cPlaying 20 Questions,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>helps you get to know our CPE\u00a0<\/span>team members<\/span>\u2014from their positions to their personalities! This month, we are highlighting Ginger Duggan, UTC CPE\u2019s Assistant Director for Business Development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n 1. How long have you been in your role?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Almost four years!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 2. What does a <\/span><\/b>\u201c<\/span><\/b>day in the life<\/span><\/b>\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0look like for you in your role?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I am responsible\u00a0<\/span>for establishing new (and maintaining existing) business relationships with CPE\u2019s constituents. <\/span>Mainly,\u00a0<\/span>I work with companies in the region<\/span>, find out what their training needs are, and then offer them training solutions<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Also, I am the program coordinator for the<\/span>\u00a0PMP Test Prep boot camp<\/a><\/span>, the Project Management Fundamentals course<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the HR Leadership Academy<\/a>, and the SHRM Exam Prep course<\/a><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 3. What do you enjoy most about working at CPE?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I love the energy and collaboration\u00a0<\/span>our office brings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 4. What motivates you to get up and go to work every morning? <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I love providing solutions for customers<\/span>\u00a0and playing a part in meeting their training needs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 5. What is the biggest lesson you\u2019ve learned while in your role at CPE?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Pay attention to details.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 6. What is your favorite project or a <\/span><\/b>memorable<\/span><\/b>\u00a0moment you\u2019ve had while working at CPE?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One of my most memorable moments is when we moved our offices from\u00a0<\/span>Pfeiffer Hall to the James R. Mapp Building.\u00a0<\/span>It was amazing to see our beautiful and new space for our customers to take courses in.\u00a0<\/span>The space will also provide more convenience to our customers, which excites me!<\/span><\/p>\n 7. In one sentence, how would you define true leadership?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Set an example for\u00a0<\/span>others\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0will encourage them to reach their full potential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 8. What is a professional motto or quote you \u201cwork\u201d by?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTreat everyone like they are important\u2014because they are.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 9. Why do you believe continuous education and training are important for professionals?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Professionals move into different positions throughout their careers. Each position switch (for example, becoming a manager) has different skills you need for success. <\/span>When employees feel supported by companies as they grow in their careers, companies will have a competitive <\/span>advantage<\/span> because they have skilled employees, higher retention, and higher satisfaction rates. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We are an educational partner with Development Dimensions International (DDI) and their research shows that <\/span>90% of new managers don\u2019t feel prepared, 60% of them fail within the first 24 months, and 43% of people admit they left at least one company because of a poor manager.* Training is a great<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>investment<\/span>, in particular, for managers so they learn to lead effectively. A great boss makes for a great life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 10. What are three skills you would say business managers need to have? <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Empathy, trust, and communication skills (including listening!)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 11. What\u2019s a fun fact <\/span><\/b>about you that would surprise people?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I can ride a unicycle. I learned in the 7<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0grade!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 12. What do you like to do when you aren\u2019t in the office?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I enjoy water-skiing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 13. What books are laying on your nightstand table?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I read a lot of fiction books. My favorite genres are mysteries and historical fiction<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 14. If you could meet one person, dead or alive, to grab coffee with, who would it be and why?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n My dad. I had lots of days with him,\u00a0<\/span>but I would love to sip coffee\u00a0<\/span>together one more time. He was an amazing man<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 15. Tell us your favorite concert you\u2019ve ever been to<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Fleetwood Mac<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 16. What piece of advice would you go back and tell your younger self, who had just entered the workforce?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Go to the CPE website and get your industry-<\/span>recognized<\/span>\u00a0certifications.\u00a0<\/span>\ud83d\ude09<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There are quite a few you can\u00a0<\/span>earn<\/span>\u00a0as an entry-level professional. Always stay learning!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 17. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Photographic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>memory.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 18. What activities would you recommend to a tourist coming to visit <\/span><\/b>Chattanooga?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Go hiking!<\/span>\u00a0There are many beautiful spots<\/span>\u00a0to explore,\u00a0<\/span>like Edwards Point<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Also,<\/span>\u00a0I recommend eating at Taco\u00a0<\/span>Mamacita<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 19. Tea or coffee?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Coffee.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 20. What\u2019s your favorite place you\u2019ve ever traveled to?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m not sure yet. Ireland is my favorite so far, though! <\/span>I am still working on my bucket list.
