data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We are glad you are here!<\/span><span Move In and the COVID-19 testing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Testing students and getting them into residence halls smoothly was handled with incredible skill and organization<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Everyone did their part, and it worked out better than we could have hoped<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thank you to our resident life, housing, health teams and our many volunteers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What an incredible team effort<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">!\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kudos to Yancy Freeman and Chris Smith for their leadership and attention to detail<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Also, a big shout-out to our students for using great judgment over winter break in protecting themselves \u2013 we had only nine positive<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> out of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nearly 2,000<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> tests!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Just like the fall semester, we are carefully and continuously <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">monitoring<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> data from the region, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">community<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and campus to make decisions that honor our mission and protect the health and safety of the campus community<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Measures are in place to manage the risk associated with COVID-19, and we will be instituting new on-campus testing capabilities<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mocs helping Mocs is how we continue to keep this campus safe, and it takes a total team effort<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Wearing masks, social <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">distancing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and limiting group sizes will continue to be part of our daily lives for the spring semester.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Students, we a virtual series of events and talks designed to spur conversations and actions for embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion at UTC, will resume via Zoom at 12:30 PM on January 28<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The topic, \u201cMoving Forward Together: White Allies and Accountability,\u201d will be presented by Beth <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Douthirt<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-Cohen, a Social Justice Training Institute faculty member and the executive director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Frederick Community College in Maryland<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thank you to the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Diversity Advisory Council, and members of the planning committee from across campus who <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">assisted<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in organizing and developing these address will be presented by Alex Tha Great, a renowned playwright and spoken word artist<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Additional<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> speakers and virtual links will be announced in the days leading up to the event<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">UTC MLK Day is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Equity and Inclusion and the Department of Communication in collaboration with various campus partners.<\/span><span weeks, UTC and the athletics department have lost two great friends of the University in Frank Kinser and Jim Frost<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Frank was a longtime supporter of UTC athletics and a former member of the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">UT<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Board of Trustees<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">established<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the annual Porky\u2019s Open Golf Tournament, raising more than $1 million for the UTC athletics scholarship fund over the last 20 years<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jim, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a businessman<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and philanthropist, was heavily involved in the sport of softball and youth sports<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">established<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> one of the top softball facilities in the country in building Jim Frost Stadium, home of the Mocs softball team<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our thoughts and condolences go
