{"id":1205,"date":"2021-12-16T09:11:57","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T14:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/?post_type=utcblogs_newsletter&#038;p=1205"},"modified":"2021-12-16T09:11:57","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T14:11:57","slug":"chancellors-update-116","status":"publish","type":"utcblogs_newsletter","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/newsletters\/chancellors-update-116\/","title":{"rendered":"Chancellor&#8217;s Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to our Fall 2021 graduates!\u00a0 Last week\u2019s three commencement ceremonies capped the end of a great semester.\u00a0 Seeing the smiling faces of our graduates as they walked across the stage was the highlight of my semester.\u00a0 I want to thank all faculty, staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make the ceremonies memorable.\u00a0 A special shout out to the three commencement speakers \u2013 Tyler Forrest, Stacy Lightfoot and Shewanee Howard-Baptiste \u2013 for their unique and outstanding charge to the graduates.<\/p>\n<p>The College of Engineering and Computer Science recently celebrated a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/news\/2021\/12\/truist-gift-launches-internship-program-for-small-businesses\/\">$125,000 gift from Truist in support of the College\u2019s internship program<\/a>.\u00a0 The gift will connect CECS students with smaller businesses in the region that lack funding for internships, with a particular focus on women and minority students.\u00a0 A big thanks to Truist for this generous gift.<\/p>\n<p>A huge shout out to everyone involved in dealing with the recent Lupton Hall HVAC disruption, from the role Academic Affairs played in moving classrooms and final exams, to the work of our Facilities team in getting the building back in working order, to the flexibility of our students who made it all work.\u00a0 We have demonstrated time and time again how quickly we can adapt and adjust in the face of adversity. \u00a0On top of no heat to Lupton, the leaking roof has been a source of continual irritation and inconvenience.\u00a0 We are on track to begin repairs early in the spring semester to fix this problem once and for all. \u00a0Thank you to our dedicated, talented Facilities team who are doing the best job they can to solve this difficult problem.<\/p>\n<p>Kudos to Intercollegiate Athletics for having 10 of its 16 programs beat the national average for Graduation Success Rate (GSR) based on information released by the NCAA earlier this month.\u00a0 Our Mocs posted an 89% overall GSR for the most recent cohort, the second-highest number on record since the NCAA began reporting in 1998.\u00a0 Seven teams scored a perfect 100% GSR: men\u2019s cross country, women\u2019s track and field\/cross country, men\u2019s golf, women\u2019s soccer, men\u2019s tennis, women\u2019s tennis and women\u2019s volleyball.\u00a0 Congratulations to our outstanding student-athletes and our academic support team led by Emily Blackman.<\/p>\n<p>The Mocs men\u2019s basketball team is off to a tremendous start with a 9-2 record and a No. 8 ranking in this week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/collegeinsider.com\/mens-mid-major-top-25\">collegeinsider.com mid-major Top 25 poll<\/a>. \u00a0Coach Lamont Paris\u2019 squad has several upcoming nationally televised games, beginning with an ESPNU appearance against Southern Conference-rival ETSU at 7 p.m. ET on December 30 at McKenzie Arena. \u00a0I hope we can pack the Roundhouse for this national TV audience. \u00a0Go Mocs!<\/p>\n<p>The Mocs wrestling team will ring in the new year by hosting the <a href=\"https:\/\/gomocs.com\/news\/2021\/12\/6\/wrestling-southern-scuffle-tickets-now-on-sale.aspx\">2022 Southern Scuffle<\/a>, one of the nation\u2019s biggest in-season wrestling events, on January 1-January 2 at McKenzie Arena.\u00a0 The tournament features 27 Division I teams and more than 425 wrestlers.<\/p>\n<p>This is the final C-Note of 2021.\u00a0 My family and I wish you a safe and healthy holiday season and a Happy New Year!\u00a0 We hope everyone can find some time to relax and enjoy the break.\u00a0 See you in 2022!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to our Fall 2021 graduates!\u00a0 Last week\u2019s three commencement ceremonies capped the end of a great semester.\u00a0 Seeing the smiling faces of our graduates as they walked across the stage was the highlight of my semester.\u00a0 I want to thank all faculty, staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make the ceremonies memorable.\u00a0&hellip;
