{"id":1231,"date":"2022-03-02T13:46:08","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T18:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/?post_type=utcblogs_newsletter&#038;p=1231"},"modified":"2022-03-02T13:46:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T18:46:08","slug":"update-on-staff-engagement-survey","status":"publish","type":"utcblogs_newsletter","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/newsletters\/update-on-staff-engagement-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Update on Staff Engagement Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the core values of UTC is: \u201cstudents are the reason we exist.\u201d \u00a0I believe with equal conviction that our employees \u2013\u00a0<em>all<\/em>\u00a0of our employees, regardless of role, category, rank, classification, or status \u2013 are the reason we succeed.\u00a0 Together we are the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.<\/p>\n<p>Together we work as a team committed to providing an outstanding educational experience and serving our community.\u00a0 We are constantly striving to improve every aspect of our operation, and we need your input to chart our course forward.\u00a0 Your voice matters, and your experiences and insights inspire all of us.<\/p>\n<p>Last fall the UT System partnered with McLean &amp; Company to administer an engagement survey to all regular staff. I appreciate the strong response rate from our campus &#8211; thank you to those who participated.\u00a0 Our Executive Leadership Team (Vice Chancellors, Chief of Staff and Chancellor) are keenly interested in the results and insights this survey will provide. \u00a0[You can access the PDF McLean &amp; Company survey results <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-02\/UTC-Campus-Data-Overview.pdf\">here<\/a>.] \u00a0As might be expected, the results included some examples of things we are doing very well and also areas for improvement \u2013 opportunities for us to do better.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that the McLean survey <em>did not<\/em> include faculty. \u00a0A recent communication from Provost Hale to faculty members included a link to a survey intended to begin the process of assessing faculty engagement. \u00a0In addition, we will soon have access to data related to the University\u2019s recent participation in a regional \u201cBest Places to Work\u201d assessment.\u00a0 Summed together, these surveys will provide multiple layers of information for us to ensure every employee is engaged and clearly sees how they contribute to our success.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m writing today to thank you for your participation in this work and to underscore UTC\u2019s commitment to making this the best possible place for you to work and to feel professionally engaged and fulfilled. \u00a0To that end, I have commissioned an <em>ad hoc<\/em> task force that includes the following individuals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Laure Pou (Assistant Vice Chancellor &amp; UTC\u2019s Human Resource Officer)<\/li>\n<li>Julie Brown (Director of Employee Relations)<\/li>\n<li>Lisa Burke-Smalley (Richard X. Zhang Endowed Professor in the Rollins College of Business)<\/li>\n<li>Chris Cunningham (UC Foundation Professor in the Department of Psychology)<\/li>\n<li>David Steele (Chief of Staff)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The task force has met several times this semester to review currently available data and information to consider opportunities for meaningful growth. \u00a0As more information is available, they will incorporate it into a more comprehensive view of employee engagement.\u00a0 I believe their work will make a real difference to our campus.\u00a0 The task force will review their findings and recommendations with the ELT and collaborate on developing actions steps as we move forward.<\/p>\n<p>I will provide an update on our progress later this spring.\u00a0 In the meantime, thank you for all that you do and how you do it. \u00a0It is a great privilege to serve our students and our community with such amazing colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>GO MOCS!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the core values of UTC is: \u201cstudents are the reason we exist.\u201d \u00a0I believe with equal conviction that our employees \u2013\u00a0all\u00a0of our employees, regardless of role, category, rank, classification, or status \u2013 are the reason we succeed.\u00a0 Together we are the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
