It is hard to believe we are finishing up our third week of classes! Students, staff and faculty alike are settling into the semester\u2019s routine.<\/p>\n

The past couple of weeks have been a flurry of activities.\u00a0 \u00a0From Convocation on August 19th<\/sup> (view the event time lapse here<\/a>) to the Mocs home opener and Mocs Flock Finley on September 1st<\/sup> (view the highlights here<\/a>), Welcome Week 2016 provided many opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to get involved in campus life. \u00a0Many thanks to all staff members and volunteers who were involved in the planning and execution of each of these activities. \u00a0Our students have enjoyed a great welcome to campus these past two weeks, and this would not have been possible without your hard work.\u00a0 \u00a0Thanks to everyone for making this a success.<\/p>\n

The 2016-2017 recipients of the Ruth S. Holmberg Grants were announced last month: Dr. Zibin Guo, Dr. Angela Prince, Dr. Philip Roundy, Dr. Endong Wang, Dr. Amanda Wintersieck and Dr. Weidong Wu.\u00a0 More information about the awards and the research that will result can be found here<\/a>.\u00a0 Two faculty members were also newly appointed as Guerry Professors: Dr. Lisa Burke-Smalley in Management and Dr. Gary Wilkerson in Health and Human Performance.\u00a0 Congratulations to all!<\/p>\n

Next week UTC celebrates Founders Week, starting with Mocs Games on Monday, September 12th<\/sup> and culminating with the State of the University address and Chamberlain Field Reopening at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th<\/sup>.\u00a0 More information about Founders Week events can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Welcome to UTC\u2019s new Head Coach for Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Cross Country and Women\u2019s Track and Field, Andy Meyer. \u00a0Immediately prior to accepting the position with UTC, Coach Meyer served as co-head coach of the cross country and track teams at Dalton State College.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Mocs football for last week\u2019s 66-0 win against Shorter University.\u00a0 Come out and cheer on the Mocs this Saturday, September 10th<\/sup>, as we take on Presbyterian College.\u00a0 Kick-off is at 2:00 p.m. at Finley Stadium.<\/p>\n

If you want to share the Mocs pride by wearing a Power C pin, stop by my office in 101 Founders Hall to pick one up from my assistant, Teresa McKinney.<\/p>\n
