{"id":498,"date":"2017-01-05T14:40:07","date_gmt":"2017-01-05T19:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/?post_type=utcblogs_newsletter&#038;p=498"},"modified":"2017-01-05T14:40:07","modified_gmt":"2017-01-05T19:40:07","slug":"chancellors-update-29","status":"publish","type":"utcblogs_newsletter","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/chancellor\/newsletters\/chancellors-update-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Chancellor&#8217;s Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy 2017! \u00a0Classes begin on Monday and we are all looking forward to an exciting spring semester. \u00a0As we start a new year, it is a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished as a university.\u00a0 We should all be proud of the progress we have made on the UTC Strategic Plan that was launched in 2015.\u00a0 Some of the many highlights from the last year are included in our new Strategic Plan Update (Strategic Plan: Year 1 Review).\u00a0 It is available as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/strategic-plan\/resources\/flipbook-update-2016\/year-1-review.html\">digital flipbook<\/a> or as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/strategic-plan\/resources\/pdf\/strategic-plan-year1-story-web.pdf\">pdf download.<\/a>\u00a0 Our progress as a university is due to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff, students and supporters \u2013 Thank YOU for all you do!<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone had a relaxing holiday break.\u00a0 Many faculty and staff were busy moving offices to new locations.\u00a0 The Dean\u2019s Office for Arts and Sciences and the departments of English, Psychology, and Philosophy and Religion moved from Holt Hall to 540 McCallie, the State Office Building.\u00a0 These departments are settling in on the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> floors.\u00a0 Renovations to build out classroom space on the first floor are underway and will be complete in time for classes this coming fall.\u00a0 In addition, the Honors College moved from the Guerry Center to 545 Oak Street (next door to the Alumni House).\u00a0 Guerry will be renovated and the Honors College will move back in fall 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Just before the winter break, Mocs Football head coach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gomocs.com\/news\/2016\/12\/14\/football-utc-statement-on-the-departure-of-head-coach-russ-huesman.aspx?path=fb\">Russ Huesman<\/a> accepted the head coaching job at the University of Richmond. \u00a0He took a struggling UTC football program and turned it into a winning one. \u00a0Coach Huesman departs with our deep appreciation of his accomplishments on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p>UTC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gomocs.com\/news\/2016\/12\/19\/tom-arth-named-23rd-head-coach-of-mocs-football.aspx?path=fb\">welcomes Tom Arth<\/a> as the 23<sup>rd<\/sup> Mocs Football head coach. \u00a0He was the 2016 Division III National Coach of the Year. \u00a0He served four years as head coach at John Carroll University, where he led teams that finished in the top 25 \u2013 including two top 5 finishes. \u00a0Coach Arth has hired <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gomocs.com\/news\/2016\/12\/29\/football-arths-staff-starting-to-take-shape.aspx?path=fb\">an impressive staff<\/a> who are already in place and working hard.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, anyone who would like one of our <em>\u2018Power C\u2019<\/em> lapel pins can stop by my office on the first floor of Founders Hall, Room 101.
