Enrollment for spring 2017 is 10,537 students, up 0.7% from last spring.\u00a0 This is great way to start the semester.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Dr. Li Yang, Professor and Assistant Dean in the College of Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the UTC Information Security (InfoSec) Center.\u00a0 Dr. Yang has received a $1,540,763\u00a0grant from the National Science Foundation to launch a new Scholarship for Service program at UTC in collaboration with Tuskegee University. \u00a0The federal scholarship program is designed to grow and strengthen the nation\u2019s corps of cybersecurity\u00a0experts protecting critical government infrastructure. The goal is to graduate 18 highly capable cybersecurity professionals\u00a0\u2013\u00a09 from each institution. Our partnership with Tuskegee University will also help in recruiting underrepresented minorities into the cybersecurity profession. This exciting collaboration is also supported by Dr. Joseph Kizza and Dr. Neslihan Alp of UTC\u2019s College of Engineering and Computer Science.<\/p>\n

Dr. James Newman, Mechanical Engineering Professor and Computational Science Graduate Coordinator\/Assistant Director for the SimCenter, was named one of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Class of 2017 Associate Fellows. \u00a0Congratulations to Dr. Newman.<\/p>\n

Last Friday we held a luncheon to honor employees who have received the UTC Blue Ribbon Award during the past six months. Blue Ribbon Award honorees are nominated for going above and beyond. \u00a0The honorees were Bengt Carlson (July), Jewell Chason (August), Susan Cardwell (September), Michelle Prince (October), Lindsay Manning-Hyden and Allison Hughes (November) and Chris Stokes (December).\u00a0 You can read about these very special employees on our website<\/a>.
