We are in the midst of final exams for spring semester, and graduating students are looking forward to commencement. Thank you to our faculty, staff, and students for all you have done to help our graduates successfully complete their degree. Graduate Commencement will take place May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the McKenzie Arena, while Undergraduate Commencements are May 5 at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the Arena.\u00a0 Congratulations to all our graduates!<\/p>\n

Congratulations are also in order to Dr. Richard Brown, Executive Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at UTC, and Dr. June Hanks,\u00a0Associate Professor in Physical Therapy, recipients of the\u00a02018 Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award for Faculty\/Staff. The honor recognizes dedicated efforts by administrators, faculty and students in Tennessee higher education, including volunteer work, community organization, public service, charitable service and leadership. Dr. Brown and Dr. Hanks are among five recipients this year for the award, named after the late state Rep. Harold Love, Sr.\u00a0 A reception for the winners will be held on Friday in Nashville. The Love Award is a huge honor, and no one is more deserving than Dr. Brown and Dr. Hanks. Given there are only five awards statewide, for UTC to have two recipients in the same year is simply amazing!<\/p>\n

A member of the Mocs\u2019 Women\u2019s Golf team, senior Megan Woods is the recipient of the 2018 Milliken & Co. Graduate Scholarship, a $2,000 award from the Southern Conference. Megan is one of 10 student-athletes chosen by a five-person committee of SoCon administrators. An accounting major, she also was named as one of UTC\u2019s Outstanding Seniors for 2018 and, in early March, was chosen as the SoCon women’s golfer of the week and the league’s student-athlete of the week. Megan exemplifies the best of UTC.<\/p>\n

Last week the College of Engineering and Computer Science held its inaugural Technology Symposium. The daylong event allowed students to highlight their research and capstone projects and also attracted stakeholders from the Chattanooga community. It was a huge success.<\/p>\n

Our Teaching and Learning Garden is celebrating its third year as the growing season begins. In 2017, the garden donated one ton of produce to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, offering students a chance to learn science, botany and horticulture while also giving back to our city. The garden is tended by students from all majors and colleges at UTC, some of whom keep working in the garden even after graduation. Thank you to Dr. Barbosa and all those involved.<\/p>\n

Operation Move-In 2018 takes place August 16, and volunteers are still needed in such areas as directing traffic, helping families unload their vehicles and serving as greeters. The day gives us a chance to show our newest MOCS and their families how excited we are to have them at UTC. To be part of Operation Move-In 2018, go here<\/a> to sign up.<\/p>\n
