This the first time UTC has placed in the top 10 of one of the Hearst&#8217;s overall competitions. UTC in the only university from Tennessee to place in the top 10 of one of the Hearst&#8217;s five overall competitions this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is the result of a year-long series of competitions hosted by the Hearst Journalism Awards Program. Over the course of the year, stories created by UTC students and published on <a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rising Rock<\/a> placed in the top 20 of five 2023-2024 Hearst competitions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Noah Keur<\/strong> placed 5th in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards for Sports for his story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/2023\/12\/13\/from-fracture-to-finish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">From Fracture to Finish<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Caroline Colvin<\/strong> placed 7th in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards for Feature Writing for her story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/2023\/10\/09\/welcome-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Road to the Medal<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mason Thomas Edwards<\/strong> placed 9th in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards for Personality\/Profile Writing for his story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/2023\/12\/07\/made-for-loving-kiss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Made for Loving&nbsp;KISS<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Abby White<\/strong> placed 15th in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards for Photo II Picture Story\/Series for her photos from the story, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/2023\/11\/06\/rocking-the-rodeo-scene\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rocking the Rodeo Scene<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mason Thomas Edwards<\/strong> placed 16th (tied) in the 2023-2024 Hearst Journalism Awards for Hearst Enterprise for his story \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/risingrock.net\/2023\/12\/07\/made-for-loving-kiss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Made for Loving\u00a0KISS<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners in the overall intercollegiate writing competition include University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, first place; University of Florida, second place; Arizona State University, third place; Pennsylvania State University, fourth place; Drake University, fifth place; Indiana University, sixth place; San Francisco State University, seventh place; University of Oregon, eighth place; University of Maryland, ninth place; University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, tenth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Successful Year for Rising Rock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 10th place award is the latest in a string of awards for Rising Rock. Over the course of the last year Rising Rock has also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>won four <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/communication\/2023\/10\/17\/rising-rock-wins\/\">2023 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/communication\/2024\/05\/17\/rising-rock-sweeps-golden-press-card-awards\/\">swept the 2023 Golden Press Card Awards<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>is a finalist for three 2024 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards from the Tennessee Association of Broadcaster (awards to be announced in August 2024)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help Support Rising Rock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to help support the fine work being done by students in Rising Rock?
