In a recent story on Local 3 News in Chattanooga, CRER director and chief economics Howard Wall provided his take on the effects of tariffs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey make us poorer as consumers because we pay more for things.\u00a0And for producers, they\u2019re not good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall went on to say,\u00a0\u201cIf we do produce things that we didn\u2019t, that we used to import, there are things that we\u2019re not as good at making, so wages are going to be lower. Tariffs are just\u00a0…\u00a0economists are pretty uniform in saying they\u2019re not a good idea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
