Jhiin Joo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

<\/a>Where are you from?<\/strong>
\nI was born in South Korea, moved to America when I was about 8 month old and lived in Columbus, Ohio for about 4 years, went back to Korea, and grew up there. During my undergraduate years in Korea, I came to America a couple of times for an exchange student program and for a pre-internship and internship program. That eventually led me to apply for graduate schools in America. I received my Master’s degree from USC and started working after. I worked for about two years and then I came to the SimCenter to pursue my Ph.D. degree.<\/p>\n

What brought you to UTC?<\/strong>
\nIt was one day in 2012 while I was working at Clearlab US in Georgia as a systems administrator that I started to have this strong desire in my heart to go back to school and pursue a Ph.D. degree. I was going to move to Chattanooga for my personal reason at that time, so I looked up if there were any Ph.D. programs in Engineering in Chattanooga. I found the SimCenter, and that’s how I ended up here at UTC.<\/p>\n

What is your educational background?<\/strong>
\nI received my bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Kyungpook National University in South Korea. I received my Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at USC. I was involved in a project that was sponsored by Chevron, so I had to take courses in Petroleum Engineering as well. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Computational Engineering here at UTC.<\/p>\n

What research are you working on?<\/strong>
\nIn my research, I am trying to see if a higher order finite element method formulation can accurately capture or reproduce the behavior of turbulent wall pressure fluctuations.<\/p>\n

What are your plans for the future?<\/strong>
\nI am not very sure at this point, but I am excited to see what God has in store for me. I am open to both academia and research positions.<\/p>\n

What are your interests and hobbies?<\/strong>
\nI am interested in helping and mentoring youth to know the love of God and the truth in their lives. I love to help out kids and teenagers with their school work and\/or SAT prep especially in math and science in my free time. I love swimming and I love to just spend time talking with my old friends.<\/p>\n

Does your experience at UTC meet or exceed your expectations?<\/strong>
\nI am very thankful that God has brought me to UTC. The city is beautiful, people at the SimCenter are very kind, and the environment is excellent. I did not know anything about this field of fluid dynamics, grid generation, or parallel computing at all when I first came to UTC. I have learned so much and am still learning at the SimCenter.
