Dr. Jim Henry and Dr. Neslihan Alp, Associate Dean, College of Engineering and Computer Science<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

During the summer months, improvements were made to the College\u2019s Chemical Engineering Laboratories through the installation of new equipment including a chemical reactor station, heat exchanger station, and an absorption column valued at ~$130,000, and the repurposing of space on the second floor of EMCS as a laboratory. With the present and projected enrollment growth in the College\u2019s Chemical Engineering Program, the positive impact of the improvements will better equip our students to meet workforce demands, and facilitate expanded applied research by both faculty and students.<\/p>\n

This Fall, the College will honor and celebrate the teaching, research, and service legacies of two former members of the Chemical Engineering faculty.<\/p>\n

On September 7th<\/sup> at 10 a.m., the laboratory in the EMCS Building located in room 119, will be named in honor of Professor Emeritus Jim Henry.\u00a0 Pictured with Associate Dean of the College Dr. Neslihan Alp at his receipt of the CACHE Award from the Engineering Division of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), Dr. Henry\u2019s commitment to innovation in developing remotely operated laboratory equipment, garnered him and the College national recognition. Through his generous gift to the College, a fund was established to support student research, equipment acquisition, and other welcomed enhancements to the Chemical Engineering Program.<\/p>\n

On October 11, at 10:30 a.m. the College will honor the late Dr. Frank Jones, for his years of service to the College. \u00a0Through the generosity of his family, he will be memorialized by the naming of his former research space (EMCS 199) as the Dr. Francis \u201cFrank\u201d Jones Laboratory.\u00a0 Each year a portion of the endowment established in Dr. Jones\u2019 memory will support the research and construction of a chemical energy-powered vehicle by students in the College engaged in the annual ChemE Car competition, as well as the design and analysis of microreactors for the production of biorenewable fuels.<\/p>\n
