Under the leadership of Chapter President Andy Lewis and CECS Concrete Canoe Team Captain Natalie Burdine, the participants worked on a number of projects and answered the question, \u201cCan concrete really float?\u201d They learned that it really can.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the students\u2019 commitment to community outreach, they welcomed the opportunity to challenge the participants traditional thinking about materials used in construction while helping them to explore how math skills are key to solving problems in the real world.\u00a0 In commenting on the afternoon\u2019s activities, Andy said, \u201cIt was hard to tell who was having the most fun, the children or their parents.\u00a0 It was a great chance for us to peak their curiosity and have some fun at the same time!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this month, students in the College\u2019s chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offered a hands-on workshop for children and their parents at the Chattanooga Public Library.
