The Center of Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP) is a new nexus of research and innovation at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga that will engage experts from across\u00a0the statewide UT system in cross-disciplinary research into solutions to urban and regional challenges. The vision for CUIP centers around research initiatives related to Energy,\u00a0Mobility, Healthcare, Public Safety, and Utility that will directly or indirectly benefit local citizens while developing methods and models for use around the world. CUIP is housed\u00a0at UTC as an independent research entity, underscoring Chattanooga\u2019s emergence as an innovation hub.<\/p>\n

Mina Sartipi, UC Foundation Professor, computer science department, is director of the Center for Urban Infomatics and Progress<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Center will be led by Mina Sartipi<\/a>, an accomplished researcher with a distinguished record of scholarship and who is a nationally recognized leader in smart cities research. Sartipi is a UC Foundation Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department and has led numerous interdisciplinary research initiatives as program leader for Urban Science & Technology and in her direction of the Smart Communications and Analysis Lab.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Partnerships are critical to the capacity and efficacy of\u00a0faculty and student research projects. They include collaborations with a number of renowned\u00a0research institutions and labs regionally\u00a0and nationally, such as the\u00a0University of Tennessee at Knoxville,\u00a0Oak Ridge National Lab,\u00a0US\u00a0Ignite,\u00a0MetroLab\u00a0Network,\u00a0Vanderbilt\u00a0University, and\u00a0Georgia Tech Research\u00a0Institute.\u00a0In addition, through hosting workshops like the Chattanooga 2018\u00a0Deep Learning\u00a0Conference\u00a0and visiting scholars and thought\u00a0leaders, CUIP continues to grow partners across disciplines that all serve to\u00a0elevate and broaden the research capabilities at UTC and within the greater\u00a0Chattanooga\u00a0community.<\/p>\n
