Areeg Ahmed, Anas Ali, and Preston Cooper were awarded the prestigious IEEE PES Technical Committee Prize Paper Award for their research into nuclear power. Their paper, titled \u201cEstimating the Effects of Small Voltage and Frequency Changes on Industrial Induction Motor Loading\u201d, was selected for its technical excellence within the Nuclear Power and Engineering Committee.<\/p>\n

During a summer 2019 meeting in Atlanta, the paper was chosen by 40 committee members to send to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power and Energy Society general meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina where it was one of 17 national finalists sent to the general meeting for top prize consideration. <\/p>\n

Abdelrahman Karrar traveled to Charlotte to attend the general meeting and accept the award. There, approximately 3,500 attendees represented the leaders of the power and energy industry. While at the conference, the student\u2019s work received a lot of interest. <\/p>\n

The winning paper was a continuation of the research the students began last year. The project was first presented at the UTC Technology Symposium where it was selected as the conference winner. The research team was led by Karrar.<\/p>\n

On Friday, February 7, Mark Bowman, a represented from TVA, presented the students with framed certificates to signify their accomplishments. <\/p>\n

Dean Daniel Pack was in attendance for the recognition of the students\u2019 work and spoke to their dedication to the project, \u201cWe are very proud of your hard work and your leadership within the college and for our partnership with TVA.\u201d <\/p>\n
