Located off MLK boulevard behind the Stophel apartments, the UTC SimCenter represents the center of excellence in applied computational science and engineering. The facility is home to spaces and equipment dedicated to modeling, simulation and high-performance computing. <\/p>\n
Most of the work done in the SimCenter involves disciplinary research teams. A large portion of the SimCenter is also home to the PhD program in Computational Science and Engineering.<\/p>\n
Students in the CompUTC club have decided to showcase some of the research being done in the center in order to raise general awareness of the facility in hopes to inform students of opportunities and to get them interested in research. This is being done in the form of a lecture series.<\/p>\n
The first lecture in the series featured, Sai Medury, who is a doctorate student researching cryptocurrency that also provided students with a look into his work. The upcoming lecture will be delivered by Anthony Skjellum, the director of the SimCenter. <\/p>\n
Skjellum\u2019s lecture is set to take place on March 4th at 4:30 and will include Mike Ward of HPC\/HTC Administrator and Advanced Cyber Infrastructure. Ward will be giving a tour of the facility and providing a general overview of research opportunities at the SimCenter. <\/p>\n
For those who would like to explore practical experience in computer science, CompUTC is also responsible for the Mocs Arcade located in the Engineering, Math, and Computer Science building. Nestled on the third floor, down the hallway from the common area, is a gaming console courtesy of CompUTC members. The system is maintained and programed by the organization. Some members have created original games available for play. <\/p>\n
CompUTC meets every Tuesday at 4:30 in the SimCenter for students looking to get more involved in the Computer Science department. <\/p>\n
