Matt Joplin<\/strong>, graduate student in Electrical Engineering, is interning with SpaceX during the 2016-17 academic year.\u00a0 Following a highly competitive selection process Matt was selected to do research with the firm at its facility in Seattle, Washington.\u00a0His academic work in the College, and graduate-level research under advisement of Dr. Loveless, served him well as SpaceX seeks to foster the development of students with proven records of outstanding investigatory research.<\/p>\n

SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. Founded in 2002, the company\u2019s mission is to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.<\/p>\n

During the 2015-16 academic year, Matt served as a member of the CECS Dean\u2019s Student Advisory Council, president of the student chapter of IEEE, and was active in student-directed research in the College. Upon completion of his internship, Matt plans to return to the College to complete his M.S. degree. \u201cMatt\u2019s internship with SpaceX is a fantastic opportunity for him to develop additional skills and expertise in the research and design of advanced electronics systems for operation in harsh environments, which is the focus of his graduate thesis work,\u201d explains Dr. Loveless. \u201cIt is also rewarding to see the work that Matt started as an undergraduate student in CECS (through his capstone experience) be recognized as a valuable\u00a0skillset\u00a0for SpaceX.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
