In\u00a0early August, CECS students, faculty, staff and alumni joined in thanking DENSO for it’s decade of support of the College’s Society of Automotive Engineers Baja Team.\u00a0 For the past ten years, the global manufacturer of automotive parts has provided financial support for the research, development, and construction\u00a0of Baja vehicles which have competed against engineering schools\u00a0in regional and national competitions. The presentation of DENSO\u2019s most recent generous\u00a0gift to the College also\u00a0provided\u00a0a CECS\u00a0reunion opportunity for several former Baja Team members, some of whom\u00a0are current employees of the manufacturer\u00a0at its locations in Maryville and Athens, Tennessee.<\/p>\n
On September 8th, CECS faculty members Drs. Trevor Elliott and Chuck Margraves accompanied CECS Mechanical and Electrical Engineering majors to DENSO\u2019s facility in Maryville for DENSO Day.\u00a0 That annual event provides an\u00a0occasion for DENSO to showcase its\u00a0products,\u00a0facilities, and employment opportunities to students in engineering schools across our region.<\/p>\n
Both of these events evidence DENSO\u2019s strong commitment to the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and its effective recruitment of CECS’ outstanding students. \u00a0In commenting on the partnership with DENSO, Dean Daniel Pack said, \u201c As the College moves forward in meeting the workforce demands and applied research opportunities of our region and nation, support from DENSO\u00a0and other corporate partners is vital to our success.
