Because Chattanooga has such a diverse, rich entrepreneurial ecosystem, \u00a0the annual Startup Week is organized around three tracks- Tech, Social, and Creative. Each track offers a variety of programing options with UTC\u2019s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) keenly involved in the tech track.<\/p>\n<p>One component of the week sponsored by CO. Lab, US Ignite, and the Mozilla Foundation was <strong>Launch48 &#8211; \u00a0an entrepreneurship competition<\/strong>. Two CECS students, Forrest Pruitt and Nicole Prebula, co-founders of Viator VR, took top honors and \u201cwinnings\u201d of $1,200 cash plus thousands of dollars\u2019 \u00a0worth of business assistance and donated office space. The students\u2019 award winning project is a \u00a0foreign language training program using virtual reality equipment to immerse students in a foreign culture. \u00a0The budding entrepreneurs pitched their winning \u00a0business\u00a0plan after a weekend of working to turn their concept into a viable business.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_437\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-437\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-437 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/engineering-computer-science\/files\/2016\/11\/Brogrammers-small-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"brogrammers-small\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/engineering-computer-science\/files\/2016\/11\/Brogrammers-small-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/engineering-computer-science\/files\/2016\/11\/Brogrammers-small-250x194.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/engineering-computer-science\/files\/2016\/11\/Brogrammers-small.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-437\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2016 Create-a-thon Scholarship Winners &#8211; The Brogrammers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>CECS Students also took top honors during the <strong>app development component<\/strong> of Startup week. InfoSystems and Skuid presented a $10K scholarship to grand prize winners Alay Patel, Jose Stovall, Steven Hullander, and Evan Grayson, who are all juniors in the Computer Science and Engineering Department. The fifteen teams in the competition were tasked with creating a mobile app that allows consumers to digitally keep track of their physical conditions. The first and second place teams excelled in creating an inviting and intuitive UX\/UI design, but the UTC &#8220;Brogrammers&#8221; took it a step further by adding a\u00a0<em>mini-game<\/em>\u00a0to their app.<\/p>\n<p>Another Startup Week program showcased the research efforts of Dr. Daniel Loveless and his student team. \u00a0Dr. Loveless, a member of the College\u2019s Electrical Engineering faculty, and his \u00a0UTChattSat Project were selected to participate in <strong>CO.LAB Demo Night.<\/strong> \u00a0Demo Night presented the work of top entrepreneurs who have positively contributed toward\u00a0CO.LAB&#8217;s efforts over \u00a0the last year. UTChattSat\u00a0designs and develops low-cost small-satellite systems for space-infrastructure needs, researches emerging technological problems related to the space sciences and develops 3D-printed satellite models and electronics systems for middle and high school instruction.\u00a0The\u00a0satellite\u00a0technology is currently being used for the development of science and\u00a0engineering\u00a0curriculum,\u00a0research on robust electronics for space systems, high-altitude balloon projects, and general sensor applications.
