Dr. Gillie has been an active composer for over 20 years writing primarily for brass, and her music has been performed internationally in countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Portugal, and the U.S. Her <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pNQDcNjdprY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mountain Ascent<\/a> <\/em>for trombone octet was the 2022 winner of the International Women&#8217;s Brass Conference Composition Competition, and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jU02GYBwIuE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Song for the Lost<\/em><\/a> was featured in Diversify the Stand&#8217;s <em>Winds of Change<\/em> solo collection. Dr. Gillie has been commissioned by groups such as the Interlochen Symphonic Band and the Seattle Philharmonic. Her <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-edhXBeMeZQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pale Blue Dot<\/a> <\/em>for horn and fixed media focuses on the view and experience of our planet from afar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 29%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Previously Professor of Music at Pacific Lutheran University, Dr. Gillie is now composing full time and is currently traveling the world indefinitely. This new work is tentatively titled <em><strong>Postcards from Asia<\/strong><\/em> and will be a sonic reflection of the composer&#8217;s travels in Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan. The piece will capture Dr. Gillie\u2019s impressions of the music, people, and environments of these four countries. Work will require external speakers but not a mic. Plug and play.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5-7 minutes in length<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessible to undergraduate students; no higher than written C6 for Bb trumpet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will contain technical and lyrical sections, muted sections, and an optional flugelhorn section<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum 15 participants, maximum 45<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deadline to join: May 1, 2025<\/strong> or when the consortium has reached the maximum number of participants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Delivery date to consortium: September 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Erika will perform the world premiere in November 2025; Michael will perform the Georgia premiere in December 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>After Michael&#8217;s Georgia premiere, the work will be<\/strong> <strong>available to perform exclusively by consortium members until December 31, 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cost: $40 for students, $75 for professionals; includes PDF of score and trumpet parts in Bb and C, mp3 of fixed media, and name in score<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Works with fixed media provide a different opportunity for collaboration, integrate technology and unique sounds, add diversity to a recital program, and avoid the sometimes difficult task of finding a live accompanist.
