{"id":138,"date":"2016-08-21T17:42:55","date_gmt":"2016-08-21T21:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/?p=138"},"modified":"2025-05-22T07:14:41","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T11:14:41","slug":"new-faculty-and-courses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/2016\/08\/21\/new-faculty-and-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"New Faculty and Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #999999\">***<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The History Department is excited to\u00a0welcome two new faculty members to UTC.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Edwards,\u00a0a scholar of modern Latin America,\u00a0recently completed his Ph.D. at Cornell University. \u00a0His work engages historical geography, political ecology, and science and technology studies. Through interdisciplinary methods and multiple historiographies, he examines nature-society relations, especially those that emerge through the confluence of science, cultural practices, and national and state-formation. \u00a0This semester he&#8217;ll be teaching\u00a0an upper-level course on\u00a0Latin America: Environment and Extraction (HIST 3940).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/profiles\/faculty\/vkw217.php\">Fang Yu Hu<\/a>, an expert on East Asia, received her Ph.D. from the\u00a0University of California at Santa Cruz. \u00a0Her\u00a0teaching and research interests focus on modern China, Japan, and East Asia in global context.
