***<\/span><\/p>\n

The UTC History Faculty had a busy summer. \u00a0Here are some of the highlights.<\/p>\n

Ryan Edwards<\/strong> spent the summer teaching incarcerated students at Cayuga Correctional Facility and making the move from Ithaca to Chattanooga. He is very excited about joining the history department and exploring eastern Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Boris Gorshkov<\/strong> taught at UTC and worked on chapters of his new book, Peasants in Russia from Serfdom to Stalin: Adaptation, Survival, Resistance<\/em>, being published by Bloomsbury Publishers. He also took a trip to San Francisco, where he celebrated his birthday.<\/p>\n

John Swanson<\/strong><\/a> spent two weeks at a workshop in Poland and Hungary with editors and authors from Harvard University Press, Toronto University Press, the University of Pittsburgh Press, and Oxford University Press. Prior to that he spent a week in Budapest, Hungary, meeting with scholars and film producers. During July and early August he worked on page proofs for his book manuscript that will appear in print in late 2016.<\/p>\n

Michael Thompson<\/strong><\/a> participated in two professional conferences, chairing a panel at the \u201cFree and Unfree Labor in Indian and Atlantic Ocean Port Cities\u201d workshop at the University of Pittsburgh in May, and offering comments for a session at the annual meeting of the Society for Historians of the Early Republic (SHEAR) in New Haven, Connecticut, in July. In June he spent a week in Louisville, Kentucky, scoring U.S. History Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and in July he traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, to continue archival research on the topic of disease susceptibility, race, and labor in the urban Old South. Finally, he reviewed a book on free labor in early colonial Georgia for the South Carolina Historical Magazine.<\/p>\n

Annie Tracy Samuel<\/strong><\/a> continued working on her book manuscript and completed final edits to a book chapter that will appear in an edited volume on Iranian nationalism being published by Routledge in 2017. She prepared to teach her new class on the United States in the Middle East and began working on the Affordable Course Materials Initiative with the UTC Library.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
