UTC\u2019s Adolph S. Ochs Professor of Government<\/a>,\u00a0Department of Political Science & Public Service<\/a>,\u00a0Department of History<\/a>, and\u00a0Africana Studies Program<\/a>\u00a0are pleased to co-sponsor a free public lecture on Thursday, February 20th<\/sup>\u00a0at 7:00pm in the University Center\u2019s Signal Mountain Room.<\/p>\n

The speaker,\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Timothy S. Huebner<\/a>, is the Sternberg Professor of History and Associate Provost at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and the author of three books and a dozen articles on American constitutional and judicial history, the American South, and the era of the Civil War.<\/p>\n

The lecture is titled \u201cConfronting the Past in Memphis: Nathan Bedford Forrest, the Antebellum Slave Trade, and the Reinvention of Civil War Memory,\u201d and will focus on how new research into the antebellum slave trading operations of Forrest is changing how we remember the past, while also revealing how the Lost Cause long dominated public memory of the American Civil War.<\/p>\n
