On that day over two years after the adoption of the Emancipation\u00a0Proclamation freeing enslaved Africans, Union soldiers arrived\u00a0in Galveston, TX\u00a0with the news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Juneteenth is celebrated to recognize the delayed\u00a0<span class=\"il\">freedom<\/span>\u00a0of those enslaved in Texas,\u00a0 a day representing solidarity in liberation for all of those who were once enslaved.<\/p>\n<p>On June 19th, 2020 join us virtually as allies to listen and learn as we\u00a0<strong><em>ALL<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0support and affirm\u00a0black voices\u00a0speaking\u00a0out\u00a0with their experiences of injustice in the\u00a0<strong><em>Speak\u00a0Out\u00a0for\u00a0Freedom\u00a0Commemorative Video Screening\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>as our\u00a0<strong><em>2020 Juneteenth Celebration.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the outcries of unrest from across our nation, we would like for our campus community to join us to hear the voices of our own students and colleagues as they share their stories of racial injustice in their lifetimes. This commemorative video project will symbolize a reclamation of\u00a0freedom\u00a0from the current threats to the civil liberties, rights, and lives of African Americans. We stand in solidarity against racial injustice. The fight for\u00a0freedom\u00a0continues&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be a part of the Video Project&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>African American students, faculty, and staff &#8211; share your stories to be a part of this commemorative video project to capture the voices of change in 2020.
