Johnson<\/a>, from Milwaukee, teaches at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He graduated in 2016 with a Ph.D. in History from the University of Alabama. Previously, he earned an M.A. from the University of Maryland and B.A. from Purdue University. He\u2019s the author of An Irresistible History of Alabama Barbecue (The History Press, 2017) and Rough Tactics: Black Performance in Political Spectacles, 1877-1932 (University Press of Mississippi, 2021).
