Faculty Scholarship and Publications<\/h3>\n

Tucker Adkins<\/a><\/strong>, a UTC History Department\u00a0graduate<\/a>, current instructor, and doctoral candidate at the Florida State University, published<\/a> an article<\/a> entitled \u201cNew Birth, New World: Evangelical Space in Eighteenth-Century New England\u201d in Fides et Historia<\/i>, Vol. 53, No. 1 (Winter\/Spring 2021), pp. 15-36.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Dr. Edward Brudney<\/a><\/strong>, assistant professor in the History Department, published a chapter entitled \u201c\u2018En defensa de nuestras fuentes de trabajo\u2019: Replanteando la legalidad autoritaria y la resistencia obrera durante el Proceso de Reorganizaci\u00f3n Nacional<\/a>,\u201d which appeared in the book Clase obrera y dictadura c\u00edvico-militar. Nuevos estudios sobre conflictividad y cambios estructurales<\/em><\/a>, edited by Luciana Zorzoli and Juan Pedro Massano, published by Editorial A Contracorriente (Raleigh, NC), and distributed by University of North Carolina Press.<\/p>\n

Dr. Fang Yu Hu<\/strong><\/a>, assistant professor in the History Department, was interviewed<\/a> by the East Asia for All<\/a> podcast about the depictions of Japanese imperialism in Taiwan on film.\u00a0 Read more about the film and interview from East Asia for All here<\/a> and see the full post with video clips and listen to the podcast here<\/a>.\u00a0 Dr. Hu also contributed<\/a> to the Primary Sources on Taiwan<\/a> website.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mark Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, lecturer in the History Department, published<\/a> a monograph entitled \u00a0Rough Tactics: Black Performance in Political Spectacles, 1877-1932<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(University Press of Mississippi, 2021).\u00a0 Listen to the interview Dr. Johnson did about the book with the New Books Network here<\/a>.\u00a0 Dr. Johnson is currently working on a cultural history of bacon, and was featured in an article about pork’s changing reputation published by Vice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kira Robison<\/strong><\/a>, associate professor in the History Department, published a review of the book Michelangelo\u2019s Inner Anatomies<\/i><\/a>, which appeared in the journal ISIS<\/em> (112.3).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Dr. Annie Tracy Samuel<\/a><\/strong>, assistant professor in the History Department, completed a monograph entitled The Unfinished History of the Iran-Iraq War: Faith, Firepower, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards<\/em><\/a>, which will be published in the fall by Cambridge University Press.<\/p>\n

Faculty Awards<\/h3>\n

Dr. Kira Robison<\/a><\/strong>, associate professor in the History Department, and Dr. Michael Thompson<\/a><\/strong>, UC Foundation Associate Professor and History Department Head, were two of the four UTC professors selected for UT Alumni Association Faculty Awards<\/a>.\u00a0Winners of the awards are selected by colleagues and alumni of the four universities that make up the UT system\u2014UTC, UT Knoxville, UT Martin and the Health Science Center at Memphis. \u201cThe faculty awards are extremely meaningful because it\u2019s chosen from across the campus. It gives the individual inspiration to maintain good and positive work,\u201d said Jamie Harvey, associate professor in the Department of Health and Human Services and past president of the UTC Faculty Senate.\u00a0 \u201cI am deeply humbled to receive this recognition from the UTAA,\u201d Dr. Thompson, who won the Alumni Public Service Award, said. \u201cIt is a privilege and honor to serve the UTC and Chattanooga communities, and I accept this award on behalf of my colleagues in the UTC History Department and their many impactful acts of public service.\u201d\u00a0 Dr. Robison won the Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award.<\/p>\n

Dr. Julia Cummiskey<\/a><\/strong>, assistant professor in the History Department, and Dr. John Swanson<\/a><\/strong>, Guerry Professor and History Department faculty member, were among the 2020-21 College of Arts and Sciences award winners.\u00a0 Dr. Cummiskey earned recognition for Outstanding Teaching in General Education, and Dr. Swanson was named Grants Person of the Year.<\/p>\n

Camille Goldmon<\/strong>, instructor in the History Department and a PhD candidate at Emory University, was awarded a 2021 Mellon\/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
