Update from Prof. Aaron Shaheen on the first session (Tuesday, Jan. 25):<\/h3>\n

The first session of\u00a0Take Five 2022<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday, January 25 (6 PM, Chattanooga Room in the University Center),<\/strong>\u00a0is fast approaching!\u00a0This year’s theme is the\u00a0Harlem Renaissance<\/strong>, done to commemorate the centennial of the publication of the 1922\u00a0Book of American Negro Poetry,\u00a0<\/em>the first anthology of Black verse to be published by a major press (Harcourt), which is informally credited with catalyzing the movement.<\/p>\n

The First Session:<\/u>\u00a0After I offer an extended introduction to provide larger context for the Harlem Renaissance era, Dr.\u00a0Verbie Prevost<\/strong>\u00a0will guide us through several\u00a0poems by Langston Hughes<\/strong>. Below you’ll see the specific poems Verbie will cover in her remarks:<\/p>\n

I’m mindful of how the Omicron variant is sweeping through the region. While UTC has become a mask-optional space at present, I will have masks available for those who want one. I have also discontinued the dinner service this season, opting instead for light refreshments. Moreover, I have ordered extra tables with fewer seats to allow for better social distancing.<\/p>\n
