We can analyze history to understand why things are the way they are.

– Stephen A. Thomas

Through studying history, we can see how societies became the way they are and get lost in the layers of culture throughout centuries. I also find history amazing because we can see what’s going on in the present so much better through the lens of history.

– Anonymous

I love being able to find things that happened in the past still applicable to current events. I find it amusing that when I tell people about my passion for historical studies they immediately assume I have limited myself to either be a teacher or a museum curator. [But I know] how diverse history can be and the need for historians in more than just these “limited” fields.

– Michael Bardas

I see history as an avenue for education. History is an intricate discipline that requires a lot of social nuance and understanding. I personally find history incredibly interesting and fun.

– Mikaela Brook Forrester

History never gets old, and that is why it is timeless. It teaches us where we came from and how far we have come. It is fundamental in that it provides a foundation for education in every discipline and area of study. Without historians, whole events, people, and foundations of our present and future will be lost to the eroding effects of time.

– Katelyn Cook

History is built bit by bit, and that is what I love about it. If I cannot do something perfectly, that’s okay. What I do can help the next person have a better viewpoint of that history, so then they have a better place to build their block in the structure. History is a continual project of many centuries and many minds.

– Anonymous

I love being able to look into the past and compare it to what we see today. It is so important to learn about history … to make informed decisions. I’m never bored. I’m able to quickly draw conclusions from texts and make connections because of what I’ve learned from my history courses.

– Alayna York

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="610" height="610" src="https://blogarchive.utc.edu/history/files/2019/10/17-Mt.-Fuji-610x610.jpg" alt="Former UTC history student Ethan Gossett in front of Mt.
