{"id":3248,"date":"2023-02-08T17:16:32","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T22:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/?p=3248"},"modified":"2023-02-08T17:18:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T22:18:29","slug":"why-i-choose-history-lee-perry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/2023\/02\/08\/why-i-choose-history-lee-perry\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I Choose History: Lee Perry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lee (Hayden) Perry, a 2022-23 scholarship recipient, on why he chose to major in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve always possessed a great love for the field of history, believing that the thoughts and ideas presented today are often founded in the events of the past. Biographers, historiographers, and indeed historians all pen the pages that define the culmination of human experience, and shape the way future generations will see the world. It\u2019s that belief that drove me to major in history, and I do not regret that decision.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/files\/2023\/02\/Perry-Lee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"184\" height=\"264\" src=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/history\/files\/2023\/02\/Perry-Lee.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3249\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>I began my time at UTC after having to cut short my college career to take care of my grandfather during his bout with Alzheimer\u2019s. I cannot say I look incredibly fondly on those years, despite it being the last I spent with someone I consider one of the most devout and intelligent men I should ever be lucky enough to meet. However, coming out of that I can simply state that the UTC History department and staff have been nothing short of miracle workers with how effective their tutelage and patience has been in recovering my love for learning, and love for history as well. The department features excellent professors with a wealth of experience, and varied areas of study spanning all the continents of the globe.
