The UTC History faculty had a productive summer!\u00a0 Here are some of the highlights:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dr. Susan Berghel<\/a><\/strong><\/span> participated in the 2017 NEH Summer Institute hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alphonse Fletcher Jr. University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University,\u00a0where she had the opportunity to speak with prominent scholars such as Cornel West, Blair Kelley, and Susan Ashmore.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/h4>\n

Dr. Berghel also signed a book contract with University of Georgia Press for the edited volume Growing Up America<\/em>, which brings together new scholarship on the roles of children and teenagers in shaping American political life during the decades following the Second World War.\u00a0 One of her peer-reviewed articles is forthcoming in the Journal of the History of Childhood and Youth<\/em> this fall.<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dr. Fang Yu Hu<\/a><\/strong><\/span> began drafting a chapter on Japanese teachers in Taiwan from 1895 to 1945 for her book manuscript, tentatively entitled Japanese School, Chinese Home: Experiences of Primary School-Educated Han Taiwanese Girls under Japanese Colonization<\/em>. She plans to present this chapter at a conference in the spring of 2018.<\/span><\/h4>\n

To encourage active learning in her classroom, Dr. Hu designed questions and activities that will encourage students to engage in small group discussion and class presentation as well as analyzing primary sources every week in History 1120: World History from 1400 to the present.<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dr. Will Kuby<\/a><\/strong><\/span> completed work on his book, Conjugal Misconduct: Defying Marriage Law in the Twentieth-Century United States<\/em>. It will be published by Cambridge University Press in the Spring of 2018.<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/h4>\n

Dr. Annie Tracy Samuel<\/a><\/strong><\/span> spent the summer as a visiting fellow at both the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace and the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.\u00a0 Her book chapter on \u201cGuarding the Nation: The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Nationalism, and the Iran-Iraq War\u201d was published in<\/span> Constructing Nationalism in Iran<\/em><\/a>, edited by Meir Litvak (Routledge, 2017), and her article on \u201cWhat the Iran-Iraq War Tells Us about the Future of the Iran Nuclear Deal,\u201d co-authored with Ariane Tabatabai, was published in the Summer 2017 issue of<\/span> International Security<\/em><\/a>.<\/h4>\n

Dr. Michelle White<\/strong><\/a><\/span> presented the paper, \u201c\u2018The Torment of Seeing Herself Neglected\u2019: Catherine of Braganza and the Politics of Infertility at the Restoration Court,\u201d at the Reading Early Modern Studies Conference.<\/span><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
