Thompson<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Interim Department Head and UC Foundation Associate Professor:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<div>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\">Dear History Majors,<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\">Welcome back for the 2018-2019 academic year! <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/profiles\/\">My colleagues and I<\/a><\/span> are excited to offer a dynamic lineup of <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/curriculum\/courses.php\">Fall courses<\/a><\/span>, and we are ready to assist you both inside and outside of the classroom. You have wisely selected a <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/about\/degrees.php\">major program<\/a><\/span> of study that is <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/about\/why-history.php\">preparing you to better understand and navigate a diverse and changing world, while also honing skill sets that will qualify you for a broad range of jobs and careers<\/a><\/span>. If you\u2019ve not explored our <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/\">UTC History Department website<\/a><\/span>, spend some time checking out the information under the \u201c<span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/students\/index.php\">Students<\/a><\/span>\u201d and \u201c<span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/resources.php\">Resources<\/a><\/span>\u201d tabs.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\">We want you to feel welcome on the fourth floor of Brock Hall. Brock 408C includes three Mac computers that are connected to the internet (but not the printer), and are available when the department is open for checking email, researching and writing papers, and other academic purposes. Just log in using your own UTCID and password.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\">Also stop by Brock 408 during the first few weeks of classes to pick up a UTC History t-shirt. We are proud of our department, and we\u2019d like our majors to help spread the word about all of the wonderful things happening in the department! You can ask our administrative assistant, Ms. Dell, for a S, M, L, or XL.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000\">Finally, the History Department is planning a new lunch series called <span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong>Lunch, Learn, &amp; Link<\/strong><\/span>. Three or four times each semester we will invite various groups of students to have lunch in Brock while they learn about the History major and historical profession, and link up with department faculty and resources. Planned topics include <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/students\/internships.php\">internships<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/students\/dhon.php\">honors theses<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/students\/phi-alpha-theta.php\"><span style=\"color: #333399\">Phi Alpha Theta<\/span><\/a><\/span> (the History honor society), <span style=\"color: #333399\"><a style=\"color: #333399\" href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/history\/students\/why-history.php\">what can be done with a History BA<\/a><\/span> (just about anything and everything!), or applying for graduate school. The first lunch is a welcome back open house for our majors planned for\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong><span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday, August 29<\/span><\/span>, from 12-1 in Brock 403<\/strong><\/span>.
