On September 16-18 the UTC Department of History and the University of the South hosted Dr. Amy Wood of Illinois State University for an event series on the lynching of Ed Johnson in Chattanooga.<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael Edward Miller<\/a> of<\/span> WUTC<\/a> interviewed Dr. Wood\u00a0about the legacy of lynching in the South and Ed Johnson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman in 1906. Johnson was lynched on the Walnut Street Bridge, and efforts are underway to<\/span>\u00a0create a memorial<\/a>\u00a0to this often-forgotten murder that had major legal implications for all of us.\u00a0 Listen to the interview<\/span> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
