Both Lane and I have encountered intermittent calendar syncin’ bullhockey since migrating to Outlook 2013 in the last month. We do not know if this affects Outlook 2010.<\/p>\n

What Happened:<\/strong>
\n– Some or all calendar entries in Outlook appear to stop syncing with SharePoint.<\/p>\n

Inconsistent Consistency:<\/strong>
\n– Different calendars broke for both of us.
\n– The type of interruption (some or all of the entries) was not the same.<\/p>\n

How Or Why It Happens:<\/strong>
\n– TBD. Research is afoot. We have a theory. See below.<\/p>\n

Why This Matters:<\/strong>
\n– My computer syncs Outlook w\/Google Calendars, which are embedded into OU Campus and WordPress.
\n– If my Outlook calendars break, they stop communicating with Google Calendars.
\n– This means it’s possible that public service desks may not have accurate information reflected in the Google Calendars.
\n– If any of your Outlook calendars have broken, you might try to book a space that isn’t free and\/or doesn’t update to SharePoint.<\/p>\n

Remedy, Pt. 1:<\/strong>
\n– If it appears an Outlook calendar has fewer entries than you would suspect, crosscheck against SharePoint<\/a>.
\n– If your Outlook calendar is broken, right click and manually delete it from Outlook.
\n– Log into SharePoint, click on the calendar in the left sidebar.
\n– At the top of the page, under “Calendar Tools” click on Calendar.
\n– Click on “Connect to Outlook” and follow the prompts to reestablish a fresh connection within your Outlook for this calendar.<\/p>\n

Remedy, Pt. 2:<\/strong>
\n– If you are on a public service desk and encounter someone claiming to have reserved a space, and it’s not appearing in Google Calendars, log into SharePoint just to doublecheck their claim. My understanding is that this happened today with Room 321.<\/p>\n

Instructions For Helping Us Test Out A Theory:<\/strong>
\n– Everyone should do this regardless of whether you’re using Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2013.
\n– Go to your Windows Start Menu.
\n– Click on “Control Panel”.
\n– Click on “Internet Options”.
\n– Click on the “Security” tab.
\n– Click on “Trusted Sites”.
\n– Click on “Sites”.
\n– Under “Add this website to the zone” type: https:\/\/spaces.utc.edu.
\n– Click “Add” then click “Close”.
\n– Stay on the “Security” tab then click “Custom level…”.
\n– Scroll to the bottom of this window.
\n– Under “User Authentication” click on the option “Automatic logon with current user name and password”.
\n– Click “OK”.
\n– Click “Apply”.
\n– Click “OK”.<\/p>\n
