{"id":18839,"date":"2022-08-22T17:42:17","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T21:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library-alerts\/?p=18839"},"modified":"2022-08-22T17:42:18","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T21:42:18","slug":"printer-queue-issue-in-commons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library-alerts\/2022\/08\/22\/printer-queue-issue-in-commons\/","title":{"rendered":"Printer Queue Issue In Commons"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A few observations were reported today around printing in the Commons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Which printer queue is the default is inconsistent per desktop.<\/li><li>When using an O365 software for the first time, it takes upwards of 20ish seconds for the printers to be \u201cfound\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a fix for the first issue &amp; will attempt to fix on all Commons desktops tomorrow. When we are done, every desktop should default to \u201cStudent_BW\u201d. Right now we are seeing a mix of \u201cGuest_BW\u201d and \u201cStudent_Color\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With testing &#8211; the only time a student will be charged color prices is if they happen to print a b&amp;w document using the \u201cStudent_Color\u201d queue and also go to the color printer. Otherwise, a student who prints as \u201cStudent_Color\u201d and goes to the b&amp;w printer will only be charged b&amp;w prices. Similarly, a student who prints using the \u201cStudent_BW\u201d queue will only be charged b&amp;w prices at the color printer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a theory for the second issue, but no immediate resolution and will need to dig in more. So if a student reports seeing \u201cFinding available printers\u2026\u201d in an Office document, it\u2019s just a matter of waiting.
