The students on both service desks could hear the patron calling for assistance. Shortly after the elevator doors opened and the patron exited, the elevator appeared back on 1st floor. The alarm was still sounding in the cab and Will managed to get it to stop. We called the elevator several times and it seemed to be functioning correctly. I called UTC PD to inform them there was no longer a patron stuck. At that time I consulted with the police on the best course of action. They agreed the safest option was to block the right side elevator and put up out of order signs for the night. I was told they would put in a work order on the elevator to follow up tomorrow. At this time we have blocked off and posted the elevator on all three floors, but are leaving the left side elevator functioning. As we’ve no key access to shut the cab down this is the best we can do for now.

Wednesday night–Patrons have continued to push aside the trash can that is blocking the elevator on 1st floor that is out of order. I have moved one of the large display signs to the elevator entrance in an attempt to block it completely. Obstacles and out of order signs don’t seem to count for much.

Around 10:30 pm a patron used the distress phone in the right side elevator to alert UTC PD that they were stuck in the elevator.
