This fall Lupton Library offers an expanded lineup of workshops open to the UTC community. In the weeks ahead, librarians will conduct workshops on optimized Google searching, video sharing, plagiarism, free software, and Microsoft Word, Office, and Powerpoint. The expansion arrives a result of library-surveys taken by UTC students and faculty.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn looking at our reference statistics over the past 2 years, it was clear we were seeing an increase in the number of software and technology-related questions at the reference desk,\u201d states Head of Reference and Instruction Virginia Cairns. \u201cWe also looked at our library survey data, compiled every spring, and noticed that software and technology assistance was one of the top suggestions for workshop and event ideas. So we responded to these two pieces of feedback by developing a new slate of workshops specifically to address these needs for our students.\u201d Despite the amount of technology oriented workshops added to the schedule, a popular workshop on plagiarism called \u201cCut and Paste: Strategies to Avoid Plagiarism\u201d and the crash course general research workshop \u201cTerm Paper Emergency!\u201d remain.<\/p>\n
