This position has been filled.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/services\/faculty-staff\/affordable-course-initiative.php\">Affordable Course Materials Initiative<\/a> (ACMI) in the UTC Library is hiring a part-time student assistant to support the Initiative by creating a database of course-mapped open resources in general education.<\/p>\n<p>The Affordable Course Materials Initiative is a scholarly communications service, housed in Special Collections in the UTC Library. Scholarly Communications services also include copyright and licensing consultation, open scholarship, data management, and instruction on scholarly communications, and open publishing at UTC.<\/p>\n<p>Student assistants working on this project will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a database of general education course offerings and their adopted textbooks using Google Sheets;<\/li>\n<li>Research open and affordable textbooks which could be suitable replacements;<\/li>\n<li>Assist gathering and reporting data related to ACMI courses;<\/li>\n<li>And collaborate on the creation of outreach materials related to the ACMI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to work independently and produce high quality, thorough, and accurate work<\/li>\n<li>Ability to follow detailed written instructions<\/li>\n<li>Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated initiative and adaptability<\/li>\n<li>Working knowledge of office productivity suites, such as Microsoft Office and Google Drive<\/li>\n<li>Effective written and oral communication skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desired Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated experience working in a team environment<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience using complex data entry systems<\/li>\n<li>Experience using online library databases to search for articles and e-books.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Compensation<br \/>\n<\/strong>This position is funded at $9.00 per hour for 10 hours per week during Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. The successful candidate is expected to begin working as early as August 17, 2020 and continue through April, 27, 2021. Every UTC student has an alias address. Example:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:abc123@mocs.utc.edu\">abc123@mocs.utc.edu<\/a>\u00a0would enter her email address as\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:ABC123@tennessee.edu\">ABC123@tennessee.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Address the message to Rachel Fleming at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Rachel-Fleming@utc.edu\">Rachel-Fleming@utc.edu<\/a>\u00a0with the Subject: Student Assistant Application \u2013 Your Name. Compose your message and attach your cover letter, resume, and complete application.<\/li>\n<li>Check the box \u201cSend me verification when the message is received.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cover letter should provide a description of the applicant&#8217;s relevant experience and expertise and describe the applicant&#8217;s motivation for working with the ACMI. The cover letter should also describe how the applicant would like to positively contribute to the goals of the ACMI. Applicants should address what they hope to gain from the position and how it will contribute to their career goals. Candidates must interview with the Scholarly Communications Librarian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communication<br \/>\n<\/strong>Special Collections communicates with student assistants through email and a Google calendar. Further, Special Collections uses Google Sheets to manage most projects. Schedules are managed through MocsMail calendars.
