These positions have been filled.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Graduate Assistants (GA) help Special Collections achieve its mission by working on archival processing and description, digital capture and metadata projects, and outreach initiatives including exhibitions and lesson plan development. In consultation with the Director of Special Collections, GAs will work on projects based on the students\u2019 learning objectives and how the assistantship would meet the applicant\u2019s career goals as well as unit needs. Students who successfully complete projects in Special Collections gain important transferable skills and exposure to professional software applications and data management strategies that help prepare them for further study or careers in a wide range of fields, including English, Psychology, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, and Education.<\/p>\n<p>Special Collections is offering two Graduate Assistantships in the <strong>Spring 2021 semester<\/strong>. Graduate Assistants are expected to work <strong>20 hours\/week<\/strong> for a total of 280 hours\/semester. The successful applicants will be awarded a\u00a0<strong>$4500 stipend<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0<strong>maintenance fee waiver of $4225<\/strong>\u00a0each semester.<\/p>\n<p>Information about graduate assistantships, including eligibility and requirements to remain eligible is available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/graduate-school\/student-resources\/assistantships.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate School\u2019s Opportunities of Assistantships and Internships page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Position Descriptions<\/h1>\n<h2><em>Austin-Western Company Records<\/em> Graduate Assistant<\/h2>\n<p>Works collaboratively with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/social-cultural-justice-studies\/profiles\/anthropology\/ydy185.php\">Director of the Jeffrey L. Brown Institute of Archaeology<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/profiles\/special-collections\/csg376.php\">Director of Special Collections<\/a> to inventory materials in the A<em>ustin-Western Company Records<\/em> collection, which includes corporate correspondence, engineering files (with a blueprint collection), a product film archives, and promotional product models. Bequeathed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/jbia\">Institute<\/a> by the late Dr. Jeffrey L. Brown, the Institute&#8217;s collection is a valuable resource in industrial archaeology. To inventory this collection, the successful candidate will work primarily onsite in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/special-collections\/index.php\">Special Collections<\/a> unit of the Library, but also in the Jeffrey L. Brown Institute of Archaeology&#8217;s storage space. The graduate assistant will meet onsite with the Directors of the of the Jeffrey L. Brown Institute of Archaeology and of Special Collections weekly, and will be available for chat via <a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/it-knowledge-base\/using-microsoft-teams-for-chat\/\">Microsoft Teams<\/a> during their scheduled shifts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The <em>Austin-Western Company Records<\/em> Graduate Assistant is require to work onsite at least 15 hours\/week during the Spring 2021 semester, and may have the option to work 5 hours\/week remotely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>University Archives Graduate Assistant<\/h2>\n<p>Works collaboratively with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/profiles\/special-collections\/xyp733.php\">University Archivist <\/a>to physically rearrange and rehouse a variety of university-related archival materials onsite in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/special-collections\/index.php\">Special Collections<\/a> unit of the Library. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist with data entry involved in the creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/findingaids.utc.edu\/\">Finding Aids<\/a> for university-related archival collections housed in Special Collections. The graduate assistant will meet onsite with the University Archivist weekly, and will be available for chat via Microsoft Teams during their scheduled shifts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The University Archives Graduate Assistant is required to work onsite 20 hours\/week during the Spring 2021 semester.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Duties and Qualifications<\/h1>\n<p>Assistantship duties may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>arranging and describing archival collections;<\/li>\n<li>authoring biographical and historical notes that provide context for archival materials;<\/li>\n<li>applying controlled vocabularies, including LCSH, LCNAF, AAT, and RightsStatements.org, to describe archival;<\/li>\n<li>creating finding aids in compliance with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) and local practices using ArchivesSpace;<\/li>\n<li>using scanners and cameras to digitize archival materials and rare books;<\/li>\n<li>and conducting research and writing narratives for grant applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Required qualifications include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds;<\/li>\n<li>ability to work independently and produce high quality, thorough, and accurate work;<\/li>\n<li>strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated initiative and adaptability;<\/li>\n<li>working knowledge of office productivity suites, such as Microsoft Office and Google Drive;<\/li>\n<li>effective written and oral communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>ability to follow detailed written instructions;<\/li>\n<li>and ability to work 20 hours\/week during Special Collections\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/special-collections\/about\/hours-and-location.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hours of operation<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Application<\/h1>\n<p>Interested parties should apply for a Graduate Assistantship in Special Collections for the\u00a0<strong>2020 semester<\/strong>\u00a0by submitting a\u00a0<b>cover letter<\/b>,\u00a0<b>resume<\/b>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/library\/pdfs\/special-collections\/student-assistant-intern-volunteer-application-form.pdf\"><b>application<\/b><\/a>\u00a0to the Director of Special Collections, Carolyn Runyon, at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Carolyn-Runyon@utc.edu\">Carolyn-Runyon@utc.edu<\/a>.
