Ft.: <strong>126,000 \u2013 144,000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Site Location: <strong>Corner of Vine and Douglas, adjacent to Chamberlain Field<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Project Architect: <strong>Derthick, Henley &amp; Wilkerson \/ Artech (Joint Venture)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Project Timeline<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>November 2007 to April 2008 Draft program statement and submit to architect.<\/li>\n<li>April 2008 to March 2009 Prepare design and construction documents<\/li>\n<li>March 2009 to June 2009 Submit documents to State Fire Marshal<\/li>\n<li>June 2009 to August 2009 Bidding and contract award process<\/li>\n<li>August 2009 to July 2011 Construction of new library<\/li>\n<li>July 2011 Move in to new library building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Project Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lupton Library opened in 1974 with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4,574 enrolled UTC students. Now there are 9,553 enrolled UTC students<\/li>\n<li>1,100 patron seats in the Library at opening. Now there are only 700 seats<\/li>\n<li>170,000 volumes moved into the library. Now there are 1.7 million items<\/li>\n<li>A renovation\/expansion to the Library has been on the UTC Capital Project list since before 1990<\/li>\n<li>The current library is 116,000 gross square feet. In 2000 the Tennessee Higher Education Commission found the current library building deficient by 58,575 square feet<\/li>\n<li>Student learning styles have changed dramatically since the current library was first opened as have information research and scholarly communication practices.
