Brown papers. The Student Assistant position is generously funded by the National Historical Publications &amp; Records Commission (NHPRC) to complete \u201cOne of the Black Legislators\u201d: Providing Access to the Tommie F. Brown Papers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/nhprc\/projects\/archival\/fundedprojects\">RH-103542-23<\/a>). The project supports processing and description of 125 linear feet of archival material amassed by Tommie F. Brown (1934- ), an accomplished civic leader, educator, researcher, and state legislator whose career is defined by historic firsts, including serving as the first Black woman to represent the 28th District in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1992 to 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default has-large-font-size\">Position Summary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reporting to the Project Archivist and Director of Special Collections, the Student Assistant arranges and describes the archival materials for the National History Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grant funded project, <em>\u201cOne of the Black Legislators\u201d: Providing Access to the Tommie F. Brown Papers<\/em>. The Project Assistant must be able to work 15 hours\/week during the following semesters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fall 2024, August 19 to December 10<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spring 2025, January 6 to April 29<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer 2025, May 14 to August 5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fall 2025, dates to be determined<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Student Assistant will be paid a rate of <strong>$15\/hour<\/strong>. Specific duties include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Works collaboratively with the Project Archivist and the Director of Special Collections to describe the <em>Tommie F. Brown papers<\/em> in accordance with <em>Describing Archives: A Content Standard<\/em> (<em>DACS<\/em>) and local best practices.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contributes to outreach and programming related to the <em>Tommie F. Brown papers<\/em>, including identifying materials to feature in social media outreach efforts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assists with written reports on the progress of the project as needed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Required Qualifications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ability to learn new technologies quickly and effectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse academic community.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work effectively in teams and in a dynamically changing environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Application<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested parties should apply by submitting a <strong>cover letter<\/strong>, <strong>resume<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-08\/utc-library-spc-student-assistant-intern-volunteer-application-form.pdf\"><strong>application<\/strong><\/a> to the Director of Special Collections, Carolyn Runyon, using the <a href=\"https:\/\/vault.utk.edu\/\">UT Vault<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log into UT Vault at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/vault.utk.edu\/\">vault.utk.edu<\/a>&nbsp;using your alias address and UTC password.
