{"id":2373,"date":"2012-06-22T10:14:45","date_gmt":"2012-06-22T10:14:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/archivist\/?p=2373"},"modified":"2013-09-13T18:30:28","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T18:30:28","slug":"huzzah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/2012\/06\/22\/huzzah\/","title":{"rendered":"New Digital Finding Aid Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/files\/2013\/09\/special-collections-new-digital-finding-aid.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2375\" title=\"Crowd of Folks with a Snake\" alt=\"Crowd of Folks with a Snake\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/archivist\/files\/2012\/06\/7112841415_a4c95845f7_z.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"522\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Image from the State Archives of North Carolina<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have been reprocessing the <strong>Hood-Williamson Archives on the Serpent Handlers of Southern Appalachia<\/strong> over the last several months.\u00a0 This collection actually sees a decent amount of use and there have been reports in the last few years that some of the material does not match the descriptions in the finding aid.\u00a0 The old, outdated finding aid also lacked the standardizations (specific headings, vocabularies, encoding schemes, etc.) that our field now uses.\u00a0 Reprocessing the collection involved me, scanning through hours and hours of serpent handling services in order to verify contents and match the contents to the appropriate descriptions.\u00a0 Though I realize this sounds super boring, I had a blast (my colleagues are rolling their eyes and thinking they are <em><strong>really<\/strong><\/em> tired of hearing about this collection from me).<\/p>\n<p>The real point of this post is not for me to blabber on and on about this collection, but to announce that we have a spankin&#8217; new, absolutely fabulous, <a href=\"http:\/\/findingaids.library.utc.edu\/Hood.html\" target=\"_blank\">digital finding aid<\/a> published online for the collection!\u00a0 In the finding aid, every last DVD is described in painstaking detail and the finding aid is fully searchable (<strong>insert fist pump<\/strong>).\u00a0 Now, over the next several months (never an idle moment in the Special Collections), I&#8217;ll be working on creating internet-ready versions of all of the DVDs in the collection in anticipation of the creation of an online archive for these materials.\u00a0 Though we have many researchers who travel here to view this material, imagine the audience we will now have in an online environment (insert image of Chapel with dreamy eyes).<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t worry; I&#8217;ll keep everyone updated. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image from the State Archives of North Carolina I have been reprocessing the Hood-Williamson Archives on the Serpent Handlers of Southern Appalachia over the last several months.\u00a0 This collection actually sees a decent amount of use and there have been reports in the last few years that some of the material does not match the&hellip; <\/p>\n<p class=\"more-link-wrap\"><span><a class=\"more-link button text\" href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/2012\/06\/22\/huzzah\/\"><span>Continue Reading <\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":414,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[4922],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-2373","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-special-collections","7":"entry"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
