As I was zipping through our processing area last week, it dawned on me that we have a lot of odd stuff lying around.\u00a0 That is, of course, a real understatement to those of you familiar with archives.\u00a0 The particular odd things I’m referring to are some of our “tools of the trade”.\u00a0 We fondly refer to many of these tools by non-technical names: the “prison shank<\/strong>“, “that thing that slings water around<\/strong>“, the “branding iron<\/strong>“– you get the picture.\u00a0 This post is an homage to a few of our odd little tools and the invaluable services they render to our humble operation. \"Brush\"<\/a>
BRUSH<\/strong>: Made out of synthetic fibers jammed into a bendy drinking straw. Take that technology!<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Hygrometer<\/a>
HYGROMETER<\/strong>: “That thing that slings water” to measure humidity<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Glue<\/a>
HEATED TAPE REMOVER<\/strong>: Plug in. Heat up. Remove tape. Avoid 3rd degree burns.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Sock<\/a>
DOCUMENT CLEANING PAD<\/strong>: An old sock filled with eraser shavings. Squeeze. Erase. Repeat.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Silica<\/a>
