{"id":5652,"date":"2013-02-28T17:47:31","date_gmt":"2013-02-28T22:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/lines\/?p=5652"},"modified":"2013-09-25T15:37:41","modified_gmt":"2013-09-25T19:37:41","slug":"slithering-online-our-newest-digital-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/2013\/02\/28\/slithering-online-our-newest-digital-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Slithering Online: Our Newest Digital Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/files\/2013\/09\/special-collections-hood-williamson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5656\" title=\"Snake Handling\" alt=\"Snake Handling\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/lines\/files\/2013\/02\/HoodBanner2.3-300x153.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a long time coming, but we are very excited to announce the launch of our newest digital collection, <a href=\"http:\/\/cdm16053.contentdm.oclc.org\/cdm\/landingpage\/collection\/p16053coll3\" target=\"_blank\">The Hood-Williamson Digital Collection on Serpent Handlers of Southern Appalachia<\/a>.\u00a0 The Hood-Williamson archives, held in the Special Collections of the library, is a very important and unique collection of primary source videos documenting the serpent handling churches of Southern Appalachia.\u00a0 The videos see quite a bit of in-house use from researchers and we field many requests from researchers all over the world who are interested in the collection.\u00a0 Until this point however, we have been unable to offer any remote viewing options to the global audience for this collection.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the online collection will be completed in installments, the first of which is now live and available for use.\u00a0 As the <a href=\"http:\/\/cdm16053.contentdm.oclc.org\/cdm\/landingpage\/collection\/p16053coll3\" target=\"_blank\">collection statement<\/a> indicates, the full collection will &#8220;consist of a range of the available materials covering several years of services at each church and all of the interviews Drs.
