{"id":572,"date":"2010-07-27T10:51:58","date_gmt":"2010-07-27T10:51:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/archivist\/?p=572"},"modified":"2013-09-16T13:48:22","modified_gmt":"2013-09-16T13:48:22","slug":"wacs-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/2010\/07\/27\/wacs-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"WACS at Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogarchive.utc.edu\/library\/files\/2013\/09\/special-collection-wacs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-571\" title=\"WACS at Work\" alt=\"WACS at Work\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.utc.edu\/archivist\/files\/2010\/07\/WACS1-ittybitty.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just this week, I finally crossed the finish line of a collection that I had been processing for months.\u00a0 At the end of this long journey I came across what I considered to be the most interesting part of the collection- two <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Women%27s_Army_Corps\">WACS <\/a>(Women&#8217;s Army Corps) scrapbooks from the early 1940&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>These scrapbooks were compiled by the Recruiting Publicity Bureau of the military during WWII to highlight the services of the WACs of the Ground Forces at Fort Meade, MD and Fort Benning, GA. and to encourage recruitment at both forts.\u00a0 The scrapbooks include a number of images of these ladies at their daily duties as well as resulting publicity from the project.<\/p>\n<p>The above image of Staff Sergeant Sophia Rosalie Barton was taken at Fort Benning.\u00a0 To view the scrapbooks in their entirety, visit the Special Collections department of the Lupton Library.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just this week, I finally crossed the finish line of a collection that I had been processing for months.\u00a0 At the end of this long journey I came across what I considered to be the most interesting part of the collection- two WACS (Women&#8217;s Army Corps) scrapbooks from the early 1940&#8217;s.
